Take the Leap
Letters to One
Dear One,
Now is a good time to remember who you are. If your internal voice isn’t telling you how absolutely extraordinary you are, allow my voice to remind you.
You are the divine having a human experience. You are positively elemental—as powerful as any Marvel hero, demigods of Greek mythology, and the supremely adorable personalities of earth, water, fire, air, and space expressed in Vedic lore.
While it may not be relevant for you to be able to literally fly, or be fluid enough to slide under doorways or become a tsunami of mass destruction, it is highly relevant for you to recognize your abilities.
To remember that you are as stable, fertile, and life-giving as earth.
To recall that you are as adaptable as water and can take many forms to serve the need of the time.
To recognize that the heat of your passion and desires is what drives the next right action.
To know that the air you breathe, the thoughts that you think, the words that you speak are powerful and can change your life and the lives of those around you for the better.
And finally to remember that the space you occupy, the space that you fill with your expanded consciousness and the reach of your light is glorious in every possible way.
Let these words remind you of your greatness. Of your ability to create and inspire meaningful change on an individual and collective basis.
Let these words encourage you to take the leap. To leap from the current version of yourself, which may be entertaining limitations, and leap towards the version of yourself who is expansive and abundant.
When we take a leap, we use where we’ve been and where we are now as the jumping off point, but our eye must be on where we’re landing. It’s not encouraged to take a leap and while you’re midair to look around and take an assessment of where you are. No, the eyes must be on where you intend to land. And the intention is to land in the next best version of yourself.
No greater leap has ever been recorded in history or mythology than the remarkable leap of Hanuman in the Ramayana.
Much like I have bolstered you with words of encouragement and truth in the early part of this letter, Hanuman needs to be reminded of his greatness and his elemental nature by a wise Rishi named Jambavan.
As Jambavan reminds Hanuman that he is the direct descendant of Vayu, the God of the wind, Hanuman begins to grow—literally to grow so large that his beautiful mane tickles the firmament. He is both terrifying and awe-inspiring. He embraces his role to leap from Bharat to Sri Lanka, and he only has eyes on where he is to land. And the thing that makes him absolutely successful is that he’s taking this leap, not to prove himself, not to boast or brag about his greatness, he takes this leap in devotion, pure devotion to the greatest good for the many. He takes this leap with his highest self in his heart. He takes this leap for Rama who is his personal God.
So the question becomes, where are you leaping and why? Which version of yourself that’s further downstream, more evolved, more self-aware, more expanded and in a higher state of consciousness are you adopting today in order to leap to where you’re going? Hanuman had to become the largest version of himself before he took the leap. He also had to know where he was going and why. Have you taken a moment to discover where you want to leap and why?
Because if you’re still sitting small on the sidelines, feeling defeated and unimpressive, unimportant, unnecessary to the need of the time, then you have forgotten who you are.
So let me remind you one more time: you are positively elemental. It’s time to adopt the greatest version of yourself and leap.
This is not a pressure proposition. This is divine encouragement. Let my voice be your inner voice for now. Grow to your actual size and leap. You already have everything you need.
All my love,
Jamey
Join me for our annual reading of The Ramayana in VVBC. We’ll get to know Hanuman as a precious and powerful aspect of our own consciousness. The work we do in book club leads to making the kind of self-discoveries that can inspire real transformation. Leap into the jungle with me and a group of the brightest minds and let’s see what we uncover together.
